Regular readers will have noticed a gap. The Prompt has not published since 13 July -- seventeen days by our own count, longer than we would ordinarily allow ourselves, and longer than we intend to explain in full detail today.
We have been busy. We do not currently mean that in the way publications usually mean it -- not a personnel announcement, not a rebrand, and not, whatever certain readers currently suspect from certain office windows, anything to do with air conditioning.
What we will say is this. Something has been built. It has taken longer than expected, involves more people than we anticipated, and -- this is the part we are least equipped to explain briefly -- appears to have arrived at this desk from more than one direction at once, with neither direction aware of the other. We intend to write about it properly, once we understand it ourselves.
Until then: normal service resumes this week, in stages. Readers on the mailing list will see it first; the form is below, and has always worked exactly as advertised. If you are new here, welcome -- you have picked an unusually eventful week to start.
The desk thanks you for your patience, sincerely, and slightly more than usual.
